Having lived in these places, I'm happy to share my local recommendations.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is great for food, culture and a beach nearby. I highly recommend Peniche, Porto, Cascais and Ericeira.

Of course you can ski and snowboard. Here are the less obvious winter activities and why it's worth coming in summer too.

Edinburgh has bustling music scene, great restaurants and colourful streets to wonder along.
